Attempts made to support agricultural consumption due to coronavirus

Update: 12-02-2020 | 11:10:58

On 5 Feb, leaders of Department of Industry and Trade participated in a meeting with 22 localities of Long An to strengthen solutions to boost domestic consumption and support domestic production, especially in the South.

According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, at present, border markets will open more slowly than usual, firstly closing until 8 Feb 2020, causing disruption of people's exchange and trade activities, while this is still an important to some agricultural products of Vietnam, especially fruits. The effect of the epidemic and anti-epidemic measures on import-export activities is relatively large, but border trade will be most affected. Fruit products are under seasonal pressure and preservation; thus it is difficult to turn around the situation in a short time.

In this situation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to continue drastically implementing solutions such as: To direct the Trade System to join hands, ask logistics businesses to participate in helping preserve agricultural products while waiting for export; recommend farmers to immediately adjust the production schedule because the epidemic situation is still complicated, unpredictable and likely to last long. To increase domestic consumption through encouraging and organizing the connection of domestic distribution chains with large fruit wholesalers, such as Binh Thuan and Long An; call on people to support domestic farmers. At the same time, to guide and encourage businesses and farmers to switch to export eligible goods according to official quotas; recommending the seller to pack, label, stamp the traceability to facilitate the transition to export by official channels; encourage border provinces to arrange storage areas and provide enough electricity for cold containers.
