Boom in foreign arrivals to Vietnam continues

Vietnam welcomed around 1.3 million foreign visitors in August, bringing the total number of foreign arrivals to the country for the first eight months of the year to 10.4 million, up 22.8% against the same period last year, according to figures released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO).

Of that figure, 8.4 million visitors arrived by air, 1.79 million by road and 182,700 by sea.

The highest number of arrivals came from the continent of Asia with more than 8 million touching down in Vietnam, accounting for 77.2% of all foreign arrivals. The strongest growth was seen in the number of visitors from the Republic of Korea, rising 52.4% to 2.28 million over the eight months. It was followed by China (3.4 million), Taiwan (469,300), Malaysia (334,000), Thailand (212,600), Singapore (180,100) and Japan (545,700).

Other continents seeing growth included Europe (up 9.8% to 1.4 million), America (up 12.6% to 636,400), Australia (up 7.4% to 300,700) and Africa (up 20.4% to 27,900).
