Efforts to develop smart, sustainable cities

 To carry out the "Vietnam Sustainable Smart Urban Development Project 2018-2025 and orientation towards 2030", Binh Duong has made efforts to implement many programs and solutions, contributing to stimulate socio-economic growth and improving people's lives.

The province's construction planning focuses on sustainable urban development, climate change response, harmony between socio-economic development and environmental protection. Binh Duong is developing provincial planning project that integrates the contents of smart urban development. It is expected that after the project is approved, Binh Duong would develop and adjust urban construction planning projects in combination with the approved smart city construction project.

For urban planning in the province, Department of Construction advised Provincial People's Committee to issue Directive No. 14/CT-PPC dated July 16th 2019 of Provincial People's Committee to implement Directive No. 05/CT-TTg dated March 1st 2019 of the Prime Minister on strengthening the adjustment of construction planning, urban development management according to planning. Thereby, the implementation of planning contents, adjustment of planning was assessed to meet the demand of social infrastructure, technical infrastructure of residents; issues of high floor, construction density, land use rate and ability to respond to climate change received attention.

For the smart urban construction and management, the province put into operation Binh Duong Center for Community Initiatives and Startup Support (BIIC) to support the formation of a strong and sustainable creative startup ecosystem. To increase the number of innovative enterprises, science and technology enterprises, to stimulate local economic growth in depth, strengthen public-private cooperation, enhance Triple Helix practices in the direction of smart city development in Binh Duong. Transportation sector also launched Becamex Tokyu bus system using clean fuel (CNG), non-stop automatic toll collection on Highway 13. The BRT system connecting with Suoi Tien station was approved by the Prime Minister for pre-feasibility study report. To develop plan for examining railways, logistics to connect industrial parks with ports and airports to transport goods, reduce the amount of trucks, traffic congestion and accidents on roads.

In addition, Binh Duong has piloted traffic monitoring system, installed CCTV combined with loading capacity scaling, speed and electrical storage equipment to handle traffic signals in key areas to ensure traffic order and safety in the province. In 2019, provincial Department of Transport completed vehicle load control system on some provincial roads, installed a number of electric pillars to regulate traffic at several key intersections in Thu Dau Mot City, Thuan An City, Di An City, the intersections on My Phuoc - Tan Van Highway and Binh Duong Industrial - Service - Urban Complex.

To provide smart urban utilities

Some projects related to breakthrough information technology sector are also being accelerated, such as the geographical information management system (GIS) phase 1 in Thu Dau Mot City; geographical information scheme phase 2 in the province has been completed and put into use on mobile applications, websites... Some municipality also actively contributed to the trend of smart cities of the province. For example, Thu Dau Mot City issued a decision to carry out information technology infrastructure researches in fields of urban management, environment and public administration. The province has also put into operation hotline "1022" to receive, handle and promptly report recommendations of individuals and organizations.

At the same time, Binh Duong has implemented many solutions to improve the living environment, develop technical solutions to improve road traffic safety, build a set of worth-living city indicators of Binh Duong; implement the project to promote clean green environment in 2017-2030 period, launch research and construction of cultural environment, sports, smart tourism...
