EPIC project to assist HIV/AIDS prevention in Binh Duong

Binh Duong provincial Department of Health has just summed up the operations of the project on enhanced technical support for HIV/AIDS prevention in 2020 (EPIC Project).

After 27 years of detecting the first HIV case, up to now, Binh Duong has identified 8,590 people infected with HIV, of which, 6,123 cases are from outside the province. Currently, 3,939 living HIV-infected patients under management in the community are residing in the province. EPIC Project has contributed to assist Binh Duong provincial authority to implement many HIV/AIDS prevention and control measures. The HIV/AIDS prevention and control system has been strengthened. The management of HIV-infected patients and methadone treatment have been increasingly strengthened while patients comply with ARV treatments to improve their health status and employment for stable income and family economy. From January to November 2020, Binh Duong had 530 blood samples tested by Asante, of which, 76 blood samples reacted with Asante, resulting in 69 confirmed cases of new HIV infections.

For the project to be effective in 2021, Binh Duong provincial authority keeps on building plans to find infection cases in the community and at health facilities while developing treatment facilities and improving capacity of HIV confirmation labs.
