According to historical records, on the night of March 18, 1948, Mr. Hai Ca led a group of two guerrillas Tran Van Nguyen and Ho Van Lung secretly invaded the battlefield. Outside, he sent two guerrillas Nguyen Van Ai and Tran Van Hoi to act as border guard. Thanks to good camouflage and keeping the element of surprise, all 3 people successfully entered the battlefield with the ladder used to climb the wall. According to the assignment, guerrillas Nguyen climbed to the upper tower floor, Lung guerrillas climbed to the middle floor, Mr. Hai Ca downstairs both struck and commanded, each agreed to throw in each Asian hole 3 grenades. After throwing 3 grenades, suspecting that the enemy was not dead, Mr. Hai Ca "gave" them an extra explosive. The explosion was so strong that he was injured, but the battle was a great victory, killing 11 enemies, collecting 8 guns and 20 grenades.

From that experience, in November 1949, Zone 7 Command held a symposium on fighting the watchtower, Mr. Hai Ca was selected to report on the experience and method of fighting the enemy watchtower. After this conference, Zone 7 Command gained a lot of experience in directing and concluded that we could attack the watchtower on the condition that we must do a good job of investigating and closely guarding the watchtower, and must have weapons with strong destructive power to hit the tower. Later, March 19 was chosen as the Special Maneuvers Commander's Day.
