Update: 02-06-2018 | 09:17:05

Vietnam condemns activities of Taiwan (China) in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, including its live-fire drill on Ba Binh island from May 23-25, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang at a press conference in Hanoi on May 31.

Hang emphasized that Vietnam resolutely protests the activities and requests Taiwan not to repeat such acts again.

The acts seriously violated Vietnam’s sovereignty over the archipelago, threatened peace, stability and maritime safety and security, caused tensions and complicated the situation in the East Sea, she stressed.

“Vietnam has sufficient legal foundations and historical evidence proving its sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. The country requests China not to conduct similar activities, respect Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos as well as common perspectives reached by senior leaders of the two countries and international law, while ending all moves escalating tensions and complicating situation in the region,' the official said.

The same day, Hang also responded to reporters’ queries on Vietnam’s view on recent developments on the Korean Peninsula.

"Vietnam welcomes and supports concerned parties to continue promoting recent positive outcomes regarding the Korean Peninsula, and bolstering cooperation in building a nuclear-free area, laying firm foundation for peace, stability, cooperation and development on the peninsula and in the region and the world," she said.
