Action Month for Labor Safety and Hygiene 2020 towards businesses and laborers

The provincial Action Month for Labor Safety and Hygiene 2020 has taken place from May 1 to 31 with many practical activities in association with Covid-19 prevention and control. For greater concern, Binh Duong Daily had an interview with Pham Van Tuyen, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs cum Deputy Head of provincial Steering Board of the Action Month for Labor Safety and Hygiene.

-The theme of this year’s Action Month for Labor Safety and Hygiene is “improvement of working conditions and risk management at workplaces”, so what are the goal and requirement of the theme?

This year’s action month will promote concrete programs, activities to prevent labor accidents, occupational diseases and improve working conditions at workplaces; raise employers and employees ‘awareness of the implementation of the Law on Labor Safety and Hygiene, the Directive No.29-CT/TW dated September 18, 2013 of the Secretariat of the CPV Central Committee on strengthening labor safety and hygiene in the period of industrialization, modernization and international integration; the Directive No.47-CT/TW dated June 25, 2015 of the Secretariat of the CPV Central Committee on “Strengthening the Party’s leadership to fire prevention and fighting”.

-How has this year’s Action Month for Labor Safety and Hygiene been implemented?

Before the Action Month from early April, provincial Steering Board of the Action Month for Labor Safety and Hygiene issued documents guiding its branches together relevant sectors and departments to implement activities in response to the Action Month under the Plan No.47/KH-BCD dated March 20, 2020; guided businesses to further prevent Covid-19 pandemic at workplaces; made propaganda activities on the Action Month…

During the Action Month from May 31, 2020, the Steering Board and its branches have carried out the Plan No.47, disseminated activities in response to the Action Month; monitored and urged units, businesses to realize their own activities in response to the Action Month…

The Steering Board will visit, encourage some laborers hit by workplace accidents; make inspection tours of the realization of the Action Month and food safety-hygiene in businesses; organize a competition for good individuals in safety and hygiene; continue carrying out a national program on labor safety and hygiene for the 2018-2020 period after the Action Month from June 1 to December 31, 2020.

-Over the past years, the province well realized the Action Month for Labor Safety and Hygiene. But, the number of workplace accidents, fire-explosive cases, laborers with occupational diseases remained high. What were the reasons for that?

There were two main reasons for the above mentioned thing. Firstly, employers did not disseminate regulations on labor safety and hygiene among laborers sufficiently and opportunely; did not set up measures to guarantee labor safety and not provide laborers with protective equipment sufficiently; did not carry out inspection, examination of labor safety and hygiene regularly…Secondly, laborers did not observe all regulations on labor safety-hygiene and fire fighting-prevention and were still careless in working.

-Which measure will the Steering Board step up to minimize work-related accidents, fire-explosive cases and occupational diseases in the coming time?

In 2020, the Steering Board will boost dissemination of new documents guiding the observation of the Law on Labor Safety and Hygiene among businesses and laborers, aiming to ensure policies for laborers hit by workplace accidents, occupational diseases…

The Steering Board will also effectively implement national programs on labor safety and hygiene approved by the PM during the 2016-2020 period in a bid to prevent work-related accidents, occupational diseases and improve laborers ‘working conditions; improve and diversify propaganda activities on labor safety-hygiene and fire prevention and fighting via the mass media; boost inspection and supervision of labor safety-hygiene and fire prevention-fighting…
