Phu Giao’s Red Cross Society takes good care of the poor

Over the past years, Phu Giao district’s Red Cross Society and its branches gave good care for the poor, contributing to well realizing the local social welfare policies and stabilizing locals’ lives.

Phu Giao district’s Red Cross Society now has 38 branches with more than 12,310 members. For charity work getting more effective, the society and its branches have strengthened voluntary squads. The district has so far set up 12 voluntary squads with 276 members, “red cross” voluntary youth squads with 1,136 members; 37 propaganda squads with 350 members; 38 voluntary blood donation squads with 670 members…together with 51 first-aid points, contributing to vigorously realizing the local “red cross” movements, especially in helping needy cases.

The district’s Red Cross Society over the past time offered help of hundreds of billions of dong to tens of thousands of privileged people. In 2016 alone, the society well realized charity models with more than VND7.96billion mobilized, helping more than 23,940 needy cases. Implementing the program of “Tet for the poor, the disabled and Agent Orange victims” with the spirit of “One piece of food when hungry equals a big box of food when full”, the society mobilized and presented more than 3,040 Tet gifts worth more than VND770million to the local disadvantaged people.

Under the campaign of “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address”, the society also mobilized donors to support 188 poor people with more than VND453million; organized free meals for poor patients, provided free medical check-ups, medicine and gifts for the poor; maintained heroic Vietnamese mothers…. The society also mobilized organizations and individuals to construct and donate 2 “red cross” houses worth more than VND90million to members with difficult circumstances, award 151 scholarships to poor-but-excellent pupils; launched a “charity rice” model, visited and presented gifts to members with illness…Additionally, the society effectively maintained many other charity models, namely “Helping each other in economic development” with over VND1.7billion, “Charity meal” with more than VND50million…

Ho Thu Thuy, Chairwoman of Phu Giao district’s Red Cross Society said that the society has sped up dissemination of information about the significance of charity activities. Upon this, the society’s charity programs have absorbed the participation of people from all strata. Many donors, namely Nguyen Huu Van, Le Thi Suong in Phuoc Hoa commune; Pham Dinh Luc, Chu Khac Thinh, Tong Anh Pha in Phuoc Vinh township; Nguyen Duy Thuan in An Thai commune…, have actively got involved in the local social charity activities. And the society has become a bridge between donors and the poor.
