Currently, there are still many disadvantaged children in need of the society’s help and attention. The Party and State have also paid more attention to these children over the past time.

Unfortunate children

Because of illness and poverty, Nguyen Thi Anh Mai, 7, living in TDM town’s Hiep Thanh ward has not yet gone to school. She is now looked after by Tam-her grandmother.

Tam said that Mai’s mother left home after a fierce quarrel with her husband. Currently, all costs in the family is depended on modest salary from Mai’s father, a coppersmith.

Or, Nguyen Thanh Phuong, an 8th grader of Chu Van An junior high school in TDM town, is living in her mother’s love because her father died of liver cancer last year.

Phuong said: “I love my mother very much because she is very hard to take care of me. I will try to study in order to reciprocate my mother’s affection…”.

Joining hands to take care of poor children

The Party and State have over time implemented many significant programs for unfortunate children. Nguyen Van Dong, vice-chairman of TDM town’s People’s Committee said that the local authorities have paid more attention to poor children.

On the occasion of International Children’s Day, TDM town has extracted VND350mln to present gifts to children with extremely difficult circumstance.

TDM town’s Women’s Union has also got involved in mobilizing its affilates to award scholarsghips to poor children. This program has received support from many organizations and individuals.

Van Nguyen Anh Thu, chairwoman of TDM town’s Women’s Union said: “Taking care of children is one of the union’s important emulation programs in 2012. Under the set target, the whole union will only mobilize 7 scholarships worth VND7mln to poor pupils this year. But, the Women’s Union of Phu My ward has so far mobilized 5 scholarships worth VND5mln to poor pupils”.

Joining hands to take care of disadvantaged children will be a driving force for them to rise up in life and become useful citizens for the society.
