Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has affirmed that countering climate change is one of the government’s core tasks.

Concluding the February 16 session of the National Steering Committee on Climate Change, PM Dung urged devising an overall strategy for coping with climate change promptly, considering it essential for the future of the country.

“There need to be a corresponding action programme, and drastic, fundamental, consistent and continuous actions,” Mr Dung said. “It’s also necessary to define key areas for appropriate steps.”

The head of government stressed the need to combine the issue of climate change with daily work, especially in development of infrastructure.

He also asked the National Steering Committee on Climate Change to formulate different scenarios for climate change to help ministries and localities develop their own action plans.

PM Dung drew attention to major projects on preventing inundation inside big cities, building sea dykes, protecting forests, developing clean energy sources such as wind and solar power, and developing green industries.
