The first shipment of 500kg of Vietnamese litchi will be sold at Thanh Binh Jeune supermarket on June 4.
The successful shipping of litchi to France will open more prospects for other Vietnamese fruits to penetrate the European market.
The Vietnam Trade Office (VTO) in France has spent one year on market research and studying customers’ taste as well as technical requirements.
The first batch of Vietnam litchi will arrive in Paris on June 4, and if things run smoothly Vietnam expects to export around 8 tonnes of litchi to the market this year, said Nguyen Canh Cuong, trade counsellor to France.
Cuong added that French regulations imposed on fruit imports are not too strict which only require the imported fruits to be treated with sulphur.
The VTO has met Madagascar expert Michel Pierre to gain a better understanding about the technique.
