The Government leader made this remark at a ceremony held in Hanoi on May 18 to announce the Day, which was set in the revised Science and Technology Law approved by the National Assembly on June 18, 2013.

He hailed the unseen contributions made by Vietnamese scientists and those working in the field from home and abroad in the national revolutionary cause and in the country’s construction and development.

He also urged them to extend their research, to further the application of sci-tech achievements in restructuring the economy, increasing productivity and improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese businesses.

It is crucial to work out and carry out fundamental science in Vietnam’s fields of greatest potential, such as mathematics, physics, sea and life sciences, he added.

The sci-tech sector was asked to reform its operation and management in order to create the most favourable conditions for Vietnamese talents and foreign experts, while boosting co-operation with countries with advanced sci-tech development.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister presented the Independence Order, first-class, to the Ministry of Science and Technology.
