Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon spoke highly of Vietnam’s comprehensive development achievements at a meeting with Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, in New York on November 5.
He said he is pleased with the developing cooperation between Vietnam and the UN, including the implementation of the “One-UN” initiative in the country.
The UN leader praised Vietnam’s support for the UN activities through its active contributions to realising Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and building post-2015 sustainable development goals (SDGs) as well as its participation in the UN peacekeeping forces.
On her part, Ambassador Nga affirmed that Vietnam respects the UN’s effective assistance for the country’s socio-economic development.
Vietnam will continue to implement its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance and peace for cooperation and development, she said, adding that the country plans to actively and proactively integrate into the world, with multilateral diplomacy and relations with the UN being one of its top priorities.
In the coming time, Vietnam will continue to actively contributing to building the UN’s strategies and action plans in various fields, with the focus on SDGs and the 2015 agenda, peacekeeping, regional and international security, and the solving of global challenges, Nga noted.
