2016 national Phu Dong sports festival of region 4: Going ahead together

Binh Duong’s events with high achievements at the 2016 National Phu Dong Sports Festival of the Region 4

Binh Duong’s sports delegation continued successfully defending its second position after HCM city at the 2016 National Phu Dong Sports Festival of the Region 4. Noticeably, there was an increase in the number of medals compared to that of 2012.

At the sports festival, Binh Duong ranked second in the medal tally, bagging 8 gold, 19 silver and 62 bronze medals. This was a very persuasive result because Binh Phuoc ranked third only with 6 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze medals. Whilst, Dong Nai fell to the fourth position with 5 gold, 24 silver and 60 bronze medals.

With 1,523 scores in 12 events, Binh Duong also took the second position in the score tally. Dong Nai and Tay Ninh ranked third and fourth with 1,369 and 636 scores, respectively.

Especially, Binh Duong had the most successful competition in table tennis at the sports festival with 4 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze medals. Le Trong Nghia, Head Coach of the province’s table tennis team in the high school bloc said that Binh Duong ranked second in this event after HCM city where is well-known as Vietnam’s top sports center. Particularly, Binh Duong won gold medals in the events: men’s team, men’s doubles, mixed doubles and singles…

Binh Duong’s football players were also very excellent at the sports festival. They grasped 4 first, third and fourth prizes. Besides, Binh Duong pocketed 4 gold medals in two events: Judo and tug-of-war. All helped Binh Duong win the best-ever achievement at the sports festival.

Nguyen Phu Yen, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Culture-Sports and Tourism said that the result of the 2016 National Phu Dong Sports Festival of the Region 4 exactly reflected the level of investment and preparation for school sports from 13 provinces and cities in the region 4. In addition to HCM city’s sports delegation that was too strong with a total of 126 gold, 62 silver and 22 bronze medals, most remaining delegations had an advanced performance. The result will actively contribute to maintaining and boosting sports movements at schools while helping sort out outstanding athletes for the 2016 National Phu Dong Sports Festival to be held in the north-central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An in July and August ahead.
