Biotechnology discussed at international seminar

An international seminar on regional biotechnology was held in Ho Chi Minh City on February 10 by the City’s Biotechnology Department in co-ordination with the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB). 

The event drew more than 100 scholars, professors, doctors and researchers from Vietnam and many other countries in the world, including the Republic of Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, India, Pakistan, and Taiwan (China).

They presented 54 reports on medicine and pharmacy, biotechnology, nano technology and a number of bio-products.

Vietnam dealt on 10 subjects of a study into stomach cancer, patients’ genes and cancer cells.

Director of the HCM City Biotechnology Centre, Duong Hoa Xo, said this is the 3rd time AFOB has held such a biological seminar for biotechnology researchers to exchange experience and introduce the latest advances in the field. Vietnam hopes to catch up with updated information on biotechnology in many countries, especially in Asia.

Professor, Dr Hyung Joon Cha, a representative of Pohang Science and Technology University in the RoK said the research results presented at the seminar can be applied in Vietnam’s agricultural sector.
