Famous teacher Hoang Nhu Mai passes away

Professor and People's Teacher Hoang Nhu Mai passed away on September 27 in Ho Chi Minh City at the ripe old age of 95. Professor Hoang Nhu Mai ‘People's Teacher’ Professor Hoang Nhu Mai was born in 1919 in an intellectual family in the northern province of Bac Giang. He was honored with titles including Professor in 1982, Meritorious Teacher in 1988, People's teacher in 1990 and awarded the First Medal of Labor in 1990. The professor studied at universities of medicine and law before the August Revolution of 1945. He started teaching at Dong Hai Private High School in Hai Duong Province in 1943. He was principal of Phan Thanh Private School in Thai Binh Province in 1948, Viet Bac Pedagogy School in 1951, Central Pedagogy School in 1953; and teacher of Hanoi General University in 1959, Ho Chi Minh City General University in 1980 (now HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities). Professor and People’s Teacher Hoang Nhu Mai was Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Literature, Study and Teaching for more than 20 years. At the age of 87 he still worked as the Rector of the private-owned Truong Vinh Ky High School in Ho Chi Minh City. The People’s Teacher was also a scriptwriter and author of outstanding works such as drama plays titled Tieng Trong Ha Hoi (Ha Hoi Drum-Beat) in 1948, Dong Song Bien Gioi (Border River) in 1957; Vietnam modern literature in 1961, Cai luong scriptwriter Tran Huu Trang in 1982 and 1986.
