Hanoi to spend VND60 billion to lead in IT

Update: 26-02-2013 | 00:00:00

With an investment of nearly VND60 billion, Hanoi aims to develop information technology (IT) and take the lead nationwide by 2020.

However, at present, the ICT Index of the capital is at tenth place in the nation and has been falling for several years.

Recently, Hanoi City People’s Committee has approved a plan on IT development until 2020 and orientations by 2030. Accordingly, Hanoi will set forth to take the lead in IT by 2020, towards building an information society. On IT infrastructure, all staff in state agencies will be provided with computers; all departments, committees and agencies in districts and 80 to 90% of people’s committees in communes, precincts and towns will be connected by optical cables with the Internet.

IT application will be divided into fields of construction and electronic citizen development, e-government building and development, and e-business development.

All leaders of departments, committees and agencies at district and commune levels will be provided information about exploiting and using IT application.

The total investment for IT development will be VND59.558 billion, including VND8.033 billion from the state budget and VND51.505 billion from socialization resources.

The merging of Ha Tay province with Hanoi accounts for the city's recent falling ratings. The plan approval shows the determination of the capital's leaders in bringing Hanoi to rise in this field./.
