Japanese experts from the Koushikai Association and the International Culture Association presented the northern Quang Ninh province with 140 cherry trees on December 16.
The cherry trees are 2,000 years old which will be planted in Ha Long City's Bai Chay tourism area and Uong Bi city's Yen Tu tourism area. Kawakami Hiroko, Koushikai Association President, said the gift aims to reinforce the cooperation and friendship between Japan and Vietnam. Japan wants to express its sincere gratitude to the Vietnamese people for helping the country overcome the twin earthquake and tsunami tragedies in 2011. The offering is also a significant commemoration of 2013's 40th anniversary of Vietnam and Japan's diplomatic ties.
