Nguyen An Ninh high school being proactive in making changes

Due to effective innovation in teaching and learning, educational quality of Nguyen An Ninh high school located in Di An town has had noticeable improvements.  Pupils of Nguyen An Ninh high school on the opening day of the new 2013-2014 school yearQuality improvementA good news of Nguyen An Ninh high school in this year is its 86/294 pupils admitted to the universities in the first phase of national University Entrance Exam 2013 and its 189 pupils getting from the floor marks and more, which accounts for 67.35% of its pupils. This achievement demonstrates not only efforts of every pupil but also an improvement in teaching and learning quality of this school. This was also proved through ratios of good learning, conducting pupils; 100% 12th-grade pupils being successful in high school final exam; provincial outstanding pupil contest, Olympic, sport and other contests.Before 2007, Nguyen An Ninh high school was Di An semi-public high school. Since the 2007-2008 school year, implementing policy of semipublic school eliminating, provincial People’s Committee decided to change its name into Nguyen An Ninh high school.One difficulty of this school is the relative low entrance marks to 10th grade, thus pupil’s ability to acquire knowledge and practicing are restrained, and educational results are not high. Additionally, 30% pupils are children of migrant workers having unstable jobs and residences, causing difficulties for learning.Principal Phan Thi Trung said: “Despite of difficulties of insufficient personnel, inadequate facility, we always put comprehensively educational improvement on top. The school is building up trust from parents and pupils, simultaneously consolidating a qualifiedly, effectively educational environment”.Being proactive in making changesTo reform teaching methods, review and evaluate the curriculum, teaching staff discussed to devise measures of avoiding reading-and-copying learning, increasing self-learning at pupils. Regarding social science subjects, teachers intensified reviewing lessons so that pupils could have thorough grasp of knowledge. Teachers also focused on training of problem-solving skills for pupils at natural science subjects. In addition, the school organized 3 times of graduation practice test to train exam skills, and teachers could understand abilities of pupils and made proper supplement or adjustments. Point list was posted publicly at school; teachers also discussed learning results with parents to find helpful solutions.Furthermore, Nguyen An Ninh high school has paid attention to soft skills training for pupils. Namely, local educational contents were integrated into lessons of history, geography, civics, literature; combined formal lessons with extracurricular activities to make lessons attractive and lively.
