Mr. Chau Van Chi answers the interview

The Overseas Vietnamese community in the Kingdom of Cambodia look to the fatherland with great regret after General Vo Nguyen Giap passed away.

On behalf of overseas Vietnamese people, Mr. Chau Van Chi, chairman of the Vietnamese-Cambodian Association, held an interview with VOV reporters.

Reporter: How do you and overseas Vietnamese people here feel when hearing the news about the General passing away?

Mr. Chau Van Chi: Over the past days, the Vietnamese-Cambodian community in the Kingdom of Cambodia is melancholy, mourning over General Vo Nguyen Giap.

We have not sent representatives to Hanoi to pay tribute to the General, but we will contact the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom of Cambodia to mark the state funeral of the General. The Vietnamese community in Cambodia will pay tribute to the General in the Vietnamese embassy in Cambodia.

Reporter: Do you evaluate the role of the General in the history of Vietnam?

Mr. Chau Van Chi: Over the past time, we have read about the contributions of the General. The contribution of the General to the country in the two wars against the French colonialists and the US imperialists also contributed to the peace for the people in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

This is a practical contribution to help the Cambodian people have peace today, including our Vietnamese-Cambodian community.

Reporter: What activities will you and leaders of the steering committee of the Overseas Vietnamese Association there do to contribute to building the friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia?

Mr. Chau Van Chi: In the role as leaders of the Vietnamese-Cambodian community in the Kingdom of Cambodia, in the coming time, we along with the Standing Committee of the General Association through the meeting of the Vietnamese community in Cambodia, we will propagate the contribution of the General to the country, to the people of Vietnam as well as to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

With the legacy of General Vo Nguyen Giap for the country and people of Vietnam, we will mobilize overseas Vietnamese and record all the good contributions of the General.

Through this we would also like to add that the Vietnamese community in the Kingdom of Cambodia are very grateful to the General, because he has contributed to building the country and overseas Vietnamese community in countries around the world, including overseas Vietnamese in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
