Le Thanh Cung, chairman of provincial People’s Committee yesterday presided over a meeting to hear provincial Department of Education and Training (DoET)’s report on the project improving the quality of English learning and teaching at schools in the 2012 and 2017 period.

The objects of the project are to equip pupils with skills in English and increase the ratio of pupils passing this subject in the annual high school graduation exams. Also during the period, teachers at primary and secondary schools must get a score between 500 and 550 on the Toeft test or international English certificates with equivalent value; those who teach at high schools must win a score between 550 and 600 on the Toeft test or international English certificates with equivalent value.

To enhance the efficiency of the project, provincial DoET has mapped out plans to provide training courses for teaching staff; make investment in equipment for English teaching and build libraries with English books at schools…with a total cost of more than VND203.47bln.

At the meeting, Mr.Cung reached high unanimity with the project improving the quality of English teaching and learning at schools and while requiring sectors, departments to create a consensus for implementation of the project.
