Developing a modern urban area
According to the planning, during the period 2021-2025, Phu Giao district will have one town (Phuoc Vinh) classified as a type V urban area, with a population of about 18,000 people. Phu Giao district is developing an urban area concentrated around Vinh Lap Industrial Park (Tam Lap commune) and various industrial clusters. Areas where the Ho Chi Minh city - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway passes through are forming three mixed service areas that drive development in the localities of Phuoc Hoa, Tan Long, and An Long communes.
Mr. Huynh Huy Long, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phước Vĩnh Town, stated that recently, with the support of the district, the transportation infrastructure system in the area has been upgraded; urban technical infrastructure has been invested in for renovation and new construction in accordance with the district's overall planning, contributing significantly to the town's economic and social development as intended. Mr. Trinh Ngoc Thanh, a resident of neighborhood 9, Phước Vĩnh town, shared that in recent years urban traffic has developed strongly, with the roads in the town being paved with concrete and asphalt, making it convenient for residents to travel and for goods to circulate. In 2024, in response to "Civilized Saturday," every Saturday morning, various departments and organizations will organize to clean the roads, implement flower roads and flag roads, creating an increasingly green, clean, and beautiful urban face.”
According to the planning, during the period 2030-2040, 3 key areas including Phuoc Hoa commune, Tân Long commune, and An Long commune will be invested and built into modern level 5 urban areas, meeting high criteria for the quality of life of residents. By 2050, the entire Phu Giao district will be upgraded to level 4 urban and become Phu Giao town, opening up directions and elevating the development of the district.
The road traffic passing through the enhanced An Long commune as a new rural area has been upgraded, facilitating local development.
Pilot construction of a smart village
Phu Giao district identifies building and developing rural areas closely associated with the implementation of agricultural restructuring, promoting large-scale commodity production; linking agriculture with industrial, service, and tourism development, and rural development with urban development according to plan; building new rural areas to enhance the material and spiritual lives of the people, building model new rural areas to maximize the role of the people as the main actors; new rural communes and new rural districts with appropriate socio-economic infrastructure; with bright, green, clean, and beautiful landscapes and environment; ensuring stability in security and order.
After achieving the enhanced new rural area standard in 2020, in accordance with the province's and district's policy on "Building model new rural communes in the 2021-2025 period linked with piloting smart villages," An Thai commune has focused on investing in upgrading the transportation system, water supply and drainage, rural environmental sanitation, security camera systems, and solar energy lighting systems etc. in a synchronous manner according to the model new rural area criteria and the piloting plan for smart villages of the province. Mr. Bui Van Bao, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Thái Commune, stated that building model rural areas has significantly enhanced the appearance of the commune. From a commune still facing many difficulties, with inadequate infrastructure, the transportation system, schools, and healthcare centers have undergone substantial improvement; farmers are boldly applying high-tech agricultural production models, contributing to the enhancement of the quality of life for local residents. This is a favorable condition that serves as a basis for An Thai commune to strive to build a smart rural area that is suitable for the practical conditions and economic-social development needs of the locality.
Theo leads Phu Giao district, the locality has been implementing the planning for building communes according to the concentrated new rural model by connecting new residential areas with a modern transportation system, high-tech specialized cultivation areas. In the construction of new rural areas during 2021-2024, the communes of the district have effectively mobilized social capital from enterprises and residents to fulfill the new rural criteria. So far, 10 out of 10 communes have met the enhanced new rural standard; it is expected that by the end of 2025, 4 communes of An Thai, Tan Hiep, Tan Long, and Vinh Hoa) will meet the model new rural standard.
According to the provincial planning of Binh Duong for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, by 2030 Phuoc Vinh town, Phu Giao district will achieve criteria for a type 4 urban area and the new establishment of Phuoc Hoa, Tan Long, and An Long urban areas; harmoniously linking urban and rural development, promoting regional connectivity. Meanwhile, the planning project for Phu Giao district has outlined a development roadmap for the district, building the area towards sustainable development, harmonizing between urban and rural areas, between industrial and agricultural production zones, in line with the socio-economic development strategy of the province and Ho Chi Minh city region.
