Thu Dau Mot University on way of development

Thu Dau Mot University is established from Binh Duong Pedagogy College. Promoting tradition of Binh Duong Pedagogy College, Thu Dau Mot University is established to be a center for science-technology training and research and a leading culture-education hub in the province in particular and in the Southeastern region and Vietnam in general.   Thu Dau Mot University’s students join a graduation ceremony.

Responsibility and mission

Thu Dau Mot University’s mission is to contribute positively to the province, Southeastern region and Vietnam’s socio-economic development through manpower training, scientific research, provision of hi-quality products and services for fields of pedagogy, economy, healthcare and so on.

Right after its establishment, Thu Dau Mot University started admission work for majors of pedagogic college level. In the school year of 2010-2011, the university opened 6 training majors including software technique, business administration, accountancy, philology pedagogy, history pedagogy and English with 2,117 students. In the 2011-2012 academic year, the university trained 12 majors for university level, 21 ones for college level and 2 ones for intermediate level with 6,799 students. In this year, the university admits 5,850 students to train in 17 majors for university level and 21 ones for college level.

Recently, after an inspection at Thu Dau Mot University, the Ministry of Education and Training, assessed Thu Dau Mot University has made greater efforts to develop quality of lecturers, material facilities to launch training for 3 levels of university, college and vocational intermediate. The university has set out regulations for organization and operation.

With a policy of attracting manpower and financial support, the university has so far had over 616 officials and lecturers, 2 of whom are associate professor, 48 doctors, 292 masters… The ratio of lecturers with postgraduate knowledge reaches 58%.

In addition, the university has set up 10 boards, rooms, 15 faculties, 1 magazine, 1 health station and 8 centers. And, the university often invites professors, doctors and experts nationwide to train and foster for young lecturers.

Doctor Nguyen Van Hiep, headmaster of the university stressed that over the past years, the university has focused on researching social demand on manpower and referring to training programs of local and abroad universities in a bid to build and innovate its training program in conformity with socio-economic development and labor market.

In the school year of 2012-2013, the university has kept implementing the provincial party committee’s action plan on hi-quality manpower training for improvement of leadership capacity and the Party’s fighting capacity. The university’s mission is to focus on hi-quality manpower to meet requirement on social market.

Quality improvement for prestigious affirmation

In the recent years, universities nationwide have faced difficulties of admission. However, Thu Dau Mot University has made efforts to increase its prestige in training. In 2012, the university reached 5,879 applications for its university entrance exams, a 67% increase against 2011. Until now, the university has admitted 3,579 students, reaching 86.7% of its quota.

With a mission of training teachers and fostering educational managers, the university has specially paid attention to lecturer staff training and considered the mission as one of its key and strategic goals.

Since 1988, the entire province has had thousands of teachers trained and fostered by the university. Doctor Nguyen Van Hiep added that we will in the years coming make efforts to build Thu Dau Mot University into a high quality center of graduate and postgraduate training.

The provincial People’s Committee chairman Le Thanh Cung highly valued the university’s role and mission. Cung stressed “the provincial leaders have paid attention to role of education and training for local socio-economic development. Expansion of production and business must go along with improvement of intellectual content and increase on the number of skilled human resources, high quality manpower of which holds an urgent mission. I hope that the university’s entire officials, lecturers and students unite to turn the university into a key and prestigious university in the region and world”.
