Vietnam aims for top 3 at upcoming SEA Games

Vietnam is aiming to earn at least 76 gold medals at the 27thSoutheast Asian Games (SEA) in Myanmar this December and will not be content with finishing outside of the medal tally’s top three. Gymnast Ha Thanh Deputy General Sports and Physical Training Department Chief and SEA Games Team Leader Lam Quang Thanh reiterated the Vietnamese team’s goals at a September 26 press briefing in Hanoi. Thanh revealed Vietnam plans to send approximately500 athletes to compete in 29 of the SEA Games’ 33 total sports. The team’s exact numbers will be finalised on October 10. Vietnam boasts top three finishes in SEA Games past, thanks mainly to strong performances in swimming, athletics, martial arts, and football. At the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia, Vietnam won 96 gold medals, including 11 in gymnastics, nine in track-and-field, and eight in wrestling. VOV
