Vietnam promotes all-round cooperation with Canada

National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu has expressed his wish that Vietnam and Canada will effectively improve practical cooperation and political collaboration.

Luu shared this view at a reception on September 9 for a delegation from the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Parliamentary Group led by Deputy Chairman of the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament, Barry Devolin.

Vice NA Chairman Luu spoke highly of the Canadian visit, which took place at a time when both nations are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

Vietnam always places great value on developing political ties and friendship with Canada. It recognises the benefits of working closely with Canada in a variety of fields such as politics, economics, culture, education.as well as the importance of national and international forums.

Luu also said he is glad to see relations between the two nations growing steadily with two-way trade turnover jumping to US$1.6 billion in 2012.

He suggested the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Parliamentary Group will forge greater links between the two countries as well as between the two legislatures.

For his part, Barry Devolin pledged his continuous support and efforts to boost cooperation with Vietnam in the areas of his country’s strengths such as hi-technology, oil and gas, agriculture, education and labour.
