Vietnam wants to increase cooperation with Qatar and regards it as an important partner in the Gulf region, said Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.
At recent talks with Qatari Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, Mrs Doan expressed her delight at Qatar’s great achievements in national construction and development, which have turned the country into one of the biggest financial and trade centres in the region and in the world.
Mrs Doan said she hoped her visit will help further strengthen the fine friendship and cooperation in every field between the two countries.
The Qatari Crown Prince said his country is keen to increase cooperation with Vietnam in investment, labour, education, and trade and will soon send a resident ambassador to Vietnam.
During the talks, the two briefed each other on the socio-economic situation in their respective countries and discussed measures to implement all agreements reached during the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit to Qatar in March, 2009.
They agreed to continue cooperation in energy, trade, food security, financial investment and labour.
Mrs Doan took the opportunity to convey State President Nguyen Minh Triet’s letter inviting the Qatari King and Crown Prince to visit Vietnam in the near future.
The invitation was accepted and will be arranged through diplomatic channels.
During her three-day visit to Qatar, Mrs Doan visited the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, the Vietnamese Embassy, and several cultural and economic centers in Doha and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Qatar.
