Vietnam’s foreign investment hits US$10.8 billion

As of December 30, Vietnam has 627 investment projects in 55 countries and territories with a total registered capital of US$10.8 billion, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Vietnam has the highest number of investment projects in Laos with a total capital of US$3.4 billion, followed by Cambodia (US$2.1 billion), Venezuela (US$1.8 billion), Russia (US$776 million), Peru (US$508 million), Malaysia (US$412 million), and Mozambique (US$345 million).    

In 2011 alone, Vietnam granted new licenses for 75 investment projects and increased capital for 33 projects in 26 countries around the world.

The total registered investment capital of these projects including newly granted and additionally increased reached US$2.12 billion, equivalent to the previous year’s figure.

The major projects mainly focus on the energy industry and communications fields.

According to businesses and groups, US$950 million were disbursed abroad in 2011.

The Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) topped the list of Vietnamese foreign investors with a total capital of US$347 million, followed by the Viettel Group with US$185 million, Vietnam Rubber Group (US$134.6 million) and the Song Da Group (US$161 million).
