Vietnam attaches importance to the age-old relationship and multifaceted cooperation with Myanmar.

During his June 22 talks in Hanoi with Khin Aung Myint, President of the Myanmar Parliament and Speaker of its Upper House, NA chairman Hung congratulated Myanmar on its successful organization of Parliamentary by-elections in April.

The chief legislator spoke highly of Myanmar’s achievements in all fields, especially in economics and diplomacy, which have raised its position in the international arena.

Mr Hung also expressed his delight at the development of in-depth bilateral cooperation, following Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Myanmar in 2011 and President Thein Sein’s visit to Vietnam in March 2012.

He said he believes Mr Myint’s visit will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two legislative bodies and the two countries in general.

President Myint briefed the host on Myanmar’s socio-economic situation and parliamentary operation, saying that the country’s economic reform is focused on agricultural development, industrialization, and modernization with the aim of reducing poverty rate by two percent every year.

Myanmar’s Parliament is discussing the content of foreign investment law to improve the country’s economic situation, promote poverty reduction and create more jobs for people, he said.

Host and guest agreed to maintain the regular exchange of delegations at all levels to share experience in law-making and supervision activity and  set up Vietnam-Myanmar and Myanmar-Vietnam friendship parliamentarian groups.

They also agreed to create favourable conditions for businesses to invest in the two countries for mutual benefits.
