Coaches and athletes winning prizes at 29th SEA Games to be commended and rewarded

On the afternoon of September 15th, provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a ceremony to commend and reward coaches and athletes of Binh Duong Province, who have attained high achievements at the 29th SEA Games - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2017. Attending the ceremony were Tran Van Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Head of Provincial NA’s Delegation; Tran Thanh Liem, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Provincial People's Committee; leaders of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and coaches, athletes in the province.

SEA Games 29 took place from 19 to 30 Sep. Vietnamese sports delegation attended the games with 681 members, including 476 athletes competing in 32 sports. As part of Vietnam sports delegation, Binh Duong had 1 coach, 9 athletes competing in 4 sports: karate, tennis, muay, bowling.

At the end, Vietnamese sports delegation was ranked 3rd in medal tally, with 58 gold medals, 50 silver medals and 60 bronze medals. Of which, Binh Duong athletes performed successfully with 2 golds, 4 bronze medals. Specifically, two gold medalists in karatedo belonged to Nguyen Minh Phung, weight class of over 75kg; Nguyen Minh Phung, Nguyen Thanh Duy and Ho Quang Vu of the men’s Kumite category. 4 bronze medals of Nguyen Thanh Duy, karatedo weight class 60kg; Ly Hoang Nam tennis individual and couple event; Truong Quoc Hung muay weight class 71kg.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tran Thanh Liem praised the achievements at the 29th SEA Games of Binh Duong athletes. In the future, in order to develop Binh Duong sport, he asked Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to well and effectively implement the Party and State's undertakings; To actively adjust, supplement the development plan of physical training and sports. In addition, the sector should expand and improve the quality of physical training for all; Develop high-achievement sports to be step by step professional; Improve training quality for sport officials, coaches and athletes; Promote the socialization of sport so that businesses are able to directly involve in the training of athletes in some sports.

On this occasion, provincial People's Committee presented certificates of merit to athletes and coaches, who participated in and won medals at SEA Games 29. Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded certificates of merit to coaches and athletes participating in the 29th SEA Games. Total reward cost VND280 million deducted from provincial state budget. In addition, Dai Nam Joint Stock Company presented VND50 million to karate team; Mr. Nguyen Van Quynh, Vice Chairman of Binh Duong Karatedo Federation, awarded the team VND10 million.
