A special art programme themed ‘The 17th Parallel – Aspiration for Peace’ was held at the Hien Luong – Ben Hai Historical Relic Site in Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri Province, on August 16.
Jointly held by Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper and Quang Tri Province, the event saw the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; and Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Information and Education, and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.
Addressing the event, Le Quoc Minh said “Parallel 17 – Aspiration for peace” is a special programme to review the heroic past of the nation and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement on Indochina and the 52nd anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Tri Province. It is also an opportunity to express deep gratitude for the great sacrifices of previous generations.”
“We hope that the honouring of immortal values through the programme will bring us feelings of pride and love for the past, thereby transmitting the energy of the past to the present and future to strive to realise beautiful dreams for our beloved homeland and country,” Minh noted.
NA Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong said that the heroic echoes of history will create an endless source of strength for today and future generations to firmly step forward on the revolutionary path and build a strong and prosperous Vietnam.
The programme featured a series of historical stories through artistic performances on an open stage, from the flagpole to Hien Luong Bridge. At some river sections, the programme recreated the image of boats carrying soldiers, necessities, food, and secret documents connecting the two banks.
The “Aspiration for Peace” event also redrew a picture of Vinh Linh and Quang Tri from the years of bombs and bullets to the peacetime of construction and development, so that today’s generation can see the great sacrifices of the previous generations and the value of peace.
