A delegation of one thousand Vietnamese heroic mothers and heroes arrived in Hanoi on October 8 and was welcomed at the My Dinh National Convention Centre.

A special art programme entitled 'Thang Long, the Nation's Sacred Soul - Ho Chi Minh, the Most Beautiful Name' was held to salute the heroes as part of Thang Long - Hanoi’s millennial anniversary celebrations.

The event included the attendance of Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu, former President Tran Duc Luong, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung and other senior officials.

The delegation of 1,000 Vietnamese heroic mothers and heroes came from 63 provinces and cities across the country. They departed from the southern province of Dong Thap and arrived in Hanoi, their final destination, after a 14-day bus trip.

Along the way, they stopped for many exchanges in which people expressed their gratitude and respect to the heroes for their great contributions to national salvation and construction.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Party leader Nong Duc Manh saluted the 1,000 heroes who came to Hanoi to attend the millennial anniversary celebrations representing nearly 50,000 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, and Labour Heroes across the country.

He said that the delegation of heroes is a fine symbol of the Vietnamese generations born in the Ho Chi Minh era who represent Vietnamese soul and character. They are imbued with the national patriotism and revolutionary heroism that is associated with national and people liberalisation.

The Party chief stressed that the programme was also an occasion to express love and respect for President Ho Chi Minh, a Vietnamese Hero of the National Liberation and a Great Man of Culture who devoted his life to the nation’s freedom and the people's happiness.

An art programme to welcome the heroes was held jointly by the Vietnam Association of Veterans, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, and the Mai Linh group.
