13th ASEAN School Games: Vietnamese team bring home more gold medals

The Vietnamese team brought home gold medals in several events during the first competition day at the 13th ASEAN School Games (ASG) in the central city of Da Nang on June 4.

June 4 is a successful day for Vietnamese swimmers who won four gold medals in the day. Concluding the second competition day, the Vietnamese swimming team owned nine gold, three silver and two bronze medals, ranking first among participating teams.

On June 5, swimmers will continue to compete in qualifying matches and finals in breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke, freestyle, and medley swimming events at different distances.

In badminton, the Vietnamese men's team defeated their Indonesian rival to win the gold medal, while the women’s team bagged a bronze medal together with Thailand.

Badminton competitions are taking place from June 2-6. On June 5-6, individual events including men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles will be held.

Also on June 4, Vovinam fighters entered final games of the 48-53.9kg sparring and men’s Five Gate Form performance events.

In the men’s 48-53.9kg sparring event, Nguyen Van Tuyen of Vietnam failed to overcome Lim SomRith of Cambodia, bringing home a silver medal.

In the men’s Five Gate Form performance, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailan, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam made it to the final round. With his impressive performance, I Kadek Yoga Mustika of Indonesia won the gold medal with 270 points, while Phan Nguyen Dang Duong of Vietnam came second with 261 points.

Earlier on June 3, Vietnamese Vovinam fighter Dang Thi Hong Nguyen bagged a gold medal at the women’s 45-50.9kg sparring event, while Ly Thanh Van won a gold medal at the women’s 51-57kg sparring event.

After two days of competitions, Vietnamese Vovinam team brought home two gold, two silver and two bronze medals./.
