2021 ‘Reading Culture Ambassador” contest kicked off

The “Reading Culture Ambassador” contest is an activity for pupils and students nationwide, aiming to inspire the passion for reading, forming reading habits and skills among young generations.

The “Reading Culture Ambassador” contest, which was held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2019 and 2020, is one of the important activities in the project of "Fostering reading culture within community, with orientations to 2030”. Through 2 times of organization, the contest has affirmed the position, role and good values of reading culture in improving Vietnamese people’s capacity of accessing information and knowledge, especially for students, pupils- the future owners of the country, thereby encouraging and promoting the reading movement, forming reading habits and skills among young generations, contributing to developing reading culture in the community, which is seen as an important factor to build the spiritual foundation of the society.

Winners of the contest

The 2020 “Reading Culture Ambassador” contest attracted more than 1 million students, pupils. As many as 5,376 high, secondary and primary schools, universities and academies participated in the preliminary round of the contest. In Binh Duong, the contest absorbed many young people with suggestions, contributing to the development of the local reading culture.

Nguyen Van Hue, Director of provincial Library said that the organizing board of the contest received 7,034 entries from readers, including students and pupils from 1st to 12th grade after 3 months of launching the contest. Through their entries, candidates not only gave practical and specific ideas, not only encouraging people to read more, but also developing a reading plan for themselves.

From the above good results, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued a plan on the organization of the 2021 “Reading Culture Ambassador” contest. Accordingly, the competition will take place 2 rounds: The preliminary round from February to July 2021 and the final round from August to October 2021.

Mr.Hue said that the 2021 “Binh Duong Reading Culture Ambassador” Contest organized has just launched by provincial Library in early March. All pupils and students can participate in the contest by introducing good books and offering suggestions for the development of the reading culture in the community. The organizing board of the contest will select and award prizes to candidates with excellent exam papers in June 2021 while sending them to the contest at central level.
