Aftter two-month competition, the 8th Binh Duong provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival closed at the hall of provincial Department of Education and Training (DoET) on the afternoon of Feb.20. The quality of this year’s sports festival was higher than that of the previous years, helping Binh Duong confident to host the 2012 National Phu Dong sports festival of the region IV.

 More than 6,000 athletes and coaches representing the divisions of education and training and 31 high schools across the province participated in the sports festival.

 Athletes competed for 436 sets of medals in 13 events, including marathon, swimming, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, football, karate, taekwondo, judo, chess, Aerobic, basket ball and shuttle cock.

 At the week-long festival, athletes competed at many sports grounds, including Go Dau stadium; provincial Sports and Physical Training center, Binh Duong new city’s Sports Center, provincial DoET’s sporting event hall and Binh Phu high school’s volleyball ground.

 Pham Anh Dung, a physical exercise expert from provincial DoET, said that this year’s sports festival was well organized. This was because relevant agencies made favorable conditions on material facilities for competition.

 According to a representative of the organizing board, athletes also had good preparation for competition at the sports festival.

 The quality and result of the sports festival also showed the attention of the leaders of the sector and schools to sports movements among pupils.

 Provincial DoET Deputy Director Dang Thanh Sang, who was also deputy head of the organization board of the sports festival said that outstanding pupils at the event will be sorted out for the 2012 National Phu Dong Sports Festival of the region IV to be organized in Binh Duong in March and the finals of the 2012 National Phu Dong Sports Festival to be kicked off in Can Tho by the end of the year.

 He added: “With achievements done, we believe that Binh Duong will successfully host the 2012 National Phu Dong Sports Festival of the region IV and obtain high achievements at the event…”.
