Deputy PM attends opening ceremony of VGU

In the afternoon of November 21 at Binh Duong New City, Vietnam Germany University (VGU) held an opening ceremony to start up its academic year of 2011-2012 and award 12 M.A degrees to its first course graduates. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thi Nhan is cutting the ribbon to inaugurate VGU building 

 

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Vo Thien Nhan, Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan, former Germany Prime Minister Gerhard Schoeder, German ambassador Claus Wunderlich, Consulate General Conrad Cappell, and provincial representatives led by Chair Huynh Van Nhi. 

 

VGU was established in 2008 by the cooperation of the two governments in self-governed education and training model of Germany. In 3 years, VGU  has not only developed in management but also in academic training.

 

Of 600 students enrolling to VGU, 400 were selected for being rated credit and good in learning from high schools. Besides, VGU reserves 10% of enrollment quantity for university entrance of national students who achieve at least 21 points in 3 examination subjects of Group A and D1. Currently, 60 freshmen are following their courses at temporary campus in Binh Duong New City.

 

For the coming academic year, VGU is expected to add up two training majors to the two existing majors of electricity-information technology and finance-accounting.

 

148 graduates are attending post graduate program of VGU in various majors of enterprise information systems, electromechanics and sensor technology, mechanical maths and computer simulation.

 

For the amount of 200 million US dollars lent by World Bank, VGU campus is taking shape in an area of 50 ha which is expected to be done by 2017 to satisfy the needs of international-standard academic training and researches.

 

On this occasion, Professor Wolf Rieck, who is former VGU President, was honored by Minister of Education and Training for his contribution to the cause of education in Vietnam.
