The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (Eurocham) opened a seminar entitled “Mutrap III- European Trade Policies for Vietnamese Associations” in Ho Chi Minh City on January 15.
As part of the “Mutual Trade Assistance Program III” (MUTRAP III), the seminar is aimed at increasing the capacity building of Vietnamese Business Associations to provide efficient assistance to their members on EU-related trade issues.
Ambassador Sean Doyle, head of the EC Delegation to Vietnam, said the increasing participation of Vietnam in the global supply chain and global market requires that the capabilities of the Government and business associations at the central and grassroots levels be enhanced.
According to Eurocham chairman Alain Cany both the government and businesses will be required to apply and implement WTO commitments and bilateral agreements as Vietnam is now taking part in international partnerships.
In order to raise awareness of commerce policy, Eurocham is now evaluating the training demand for Vietnamese businesses to create a suitable curriculum. It will then organize a series of high-level seminars.
Eight business associations selected as Eurocham’s key partners are the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (LEFASO), the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Ho Chi Minh Branch, the Hanoi Small and Medium Enterprise Association, the Ho Chi Minh City Handicraft and Wood Association (HAWA), the Ho Chi Minh City Young Business People Association (YBA) and the Can Tho Business Association (CBA).
