Party General Secretary, National Assembly Chairman and President of the Election Council Nguyen Phu Trong on July 15 presided over the sixth session to review the elections of deputies to the 13th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-2016 term.

The numbers of voters balloting on the elections day reached 99.51 percent, which, it said, confirmed citizens’ political awareness and responsibility and their patriotism.
Nationwide voters cast ballots to elect 500 NA deputies in accordance with the law, with no cases required to be reelected. The number of deputies elected to People’s Councils at all levels was close to the number of ratified deputies, said the report.
According to the draft report, the knowledge of NA and all-level People’s Councils’ members was higher that that of the previous term, which will help improve the quality and effectiveness of the activities of people-elected agencies. The rate of self-nominated and re-elected NA deputies was higher than that of the previous term.
The Elections Council’s members proposed to merge the two election laws.
Party General Secretary and NA Chairman Trong praised the well prepared report, which, he said, closely followed the reality with analyses, assessments, examples of experiences and concrete proposals.
He said the report also pointed out shortcomings in the elections, including a number of central agencies’ instructions and documents that failed to pay appropriate attention to the election training work.
The report will be finalised and presented to the upcoming first session of the NA./.
