Provincial Youth Summer Volunteer Campaign this year strongly upheld the voluntary role of the local youths. Provincial Steering Board for the campaign made this statement at the ceremony summing up the campaign. During the campaign, the local volunteer youths greatly contributed to helping the community keep social order and security.
During the campaign, more than 20,000 local youths and 23 volunteer youth squads with over 1,000 members made significant activities in and out of the province. Noticeably, they focused on activities for the environment, including mobilizing people to use paper bags instead of plastic ones; donating wastebaskets to sub-unions for young workers at lodging facilities; growing 5,000 green trees along the dike wall of An Tay commune in Ben Cat district; collecting water hyacinth on the Sau Gon River; making environmental hygiene on streets; removing illegal advertising boards; tidying up martyrs’ cemeteries, monuments; upgrading youth works…
The local youths also actively got involved in gratitude-showing activities, providing free medical check-ups and medicine for the poor, offering help to alien and poor workers, organizing significant activities for children. They visited, presented gifts, handed over gratitude houses to policy beneficiary families; gave notebooks, scholarships for outstanding pupils… with a total expense of hundreds of million of dong.
Such these apart, they expressed their volunteer role by many activities in response to the local political-social events such as making environmental hygiene for the first Vietnam-Binh Duong Pottery Festival 2010; propagandizing and responding to the campaign on HIV/AIDS, drugs and prostitution prevention; organizing activities to celebrate Party congresses at all levels towards the 11th National Party Congress…
On the occasion of the new academic year, provincial Youth Union and its affiliates also paid more attention to children. Particularly, TDM town’s Youth Union donated money, gifts and bicycles worth more than VND55mln to poor pupils. Provincial Party Administration and Agencies Bloc’s Youth Union presented 1,120 sets of textbooks and 4,200 notebooks for poor pupils. Binh Duong University’s Youth Union offered 6,70 notebooks for pupils in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap.
Thuan An district’s Youth Union also upgraded charity classes with a total cost of VND4mln. Phuoc Hoa Rubber Joint Stock Co.’s Youth Union held a festival for children with many significant activities. Dau Tieng Rubber One-Member Co.Ltd. presented 20 bicycles worth VND20mln and granted scholarships of VND15mln to poor pupils. These affiliates also visited and presented nearly 500 scholarships, over 25,000 notebooks and 1,300 sets of notebooks…to pupils.
According to Do Ngoc Huy, vice-secretary of provincial Youth Union, lessons from the campaign are to early make preparation work; improve operational models suitable to each locality’s real situation; boost propaganda work to draw the attention and support of the whole society…. The Youth Unions of the local schools also need to take initiative in learning about the real situation of each locality for timely and suitable help…
