The flight, operated by the low-cost carrier Vietjet Air, landed at the Noi Bai International Airport on January 1 morning.

The event represents a promising sign for the local tourism industry as it strives to bounce back after a long period of being negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the three-day New Year holiday from January 1 to January 3, the capital received 60,000 domestic tourists,  posting a fall of 49% compared to the same period from last year.

Due to the complicated nature of the COVID-19 developments, relic sites throughout Hanoi remain closed.

However, some tourist attractions such as museums, and parks have started the process of receiving visitors again, with a diverse programme in place in the buildup to the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet.

Most notably, tourist sites such as the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, the Ba Vi National Park and the Tan Da Tourism Site, and the Thien Duong Bao Son Park have attracted hordes of visitors.

Recent times has seen several travel firms actively design tourism products, including typical cycling tours such as Co Loa, Dong Mo - Ba Vi - Duong Lam ancient village, a city tour to savour views of French-styled architectures, as well as a double-decker bus tour and a caravan tour.

In particular, during the New Year holiday, Hanoi has provided visitors with additional tourism products, such as standup paddle boarding (SUP) on the Hong (Red) river and camping services on the outskirts of the capital.
