Int’l seminar on prevention of bird flu infections

Update: 15-02-2012 | 00:00:00

Nearly 100 delegates from ministries, departments and relevant agencies have joined international experts at a seminar to discuss ways to prevent the spread of bird flu.

The seminar, held by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the Vietnamese Ministries of Health, and Agriculture and Rural Development, took place in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa province, from February 14-16

The seminar aimed to raise the national capacity to effectively evaluate the risks of bird flu through coordination on four sides: veterinary medicine, healthcare, virus testing and epidemiology. It also contributed to improving the awareness of relevant agencies about the importance of collecting accurate data, identifying links and problems in techniques and policies for preventing bird flu, and developing action plans and the next steps in dealing with issues related to the disease.

Participants proposed principles for evaluating risks affecting human health and handling information from health and veterinary examinations, in addition to the virus and epidemiology sectors in order to understand each sector’s actual needs.

The organizing board also presented some real situations and previously tried preventive measures.
