Representatives of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the Japan International Cooperation Agency sign the cooperation deal in Hanoi on July 24
Under the deal, JICA and VASS reasserted their long-term cooperation in contributing to the building of a socio-economic development strategy for Vietnam in 2021-2030.
The two will work together in building socio-economic development plans for the Mekong delta province of Ben Tre and the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, and doing research on newly emerging countries in Asia.
One of Vietnam’s leading research institutes, VASS has cooperated with JICA in many fields. Over the past nine years, they supported the drafting of the 2011-2020 socio-economic development strategy as well as assisted the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong in developing a renewal model and policy for its agricultural sector.
Addressing the signing ceremony, VASS President Nguyen Quang Thuan said the deal provides an important foundation for increased cooperation for sustainable development in Vietnam in general, and in Ha Giang, Ben Tre and Lam Dong provinces in particular.
JICA Deputy Chief in Vietnam Naomichi Murooka said Vietnam is an attractive investment destination and Ha Giang boasts a lot of untapped strengths.
He said with its experience, JICA will support projects and scientific ideas of VASS scientists and promote the results of these works in and outside Vietnam.
