Over the first eight months of the year, the central province of Khanh Hoa welcomed more than 4.4 million visitors, an increase of 116% compared to last year’s corresponding period, according to the provincial tourism department.
Of that figure, the number of foreign arrivals surged 141% to more than 1.8 million, while domestic tourists increased 102% to over 2.5 million against the same period last year.
Since the beginning of the year, the number Chinese tourists to Nha Trang hit more than one million, a rise of 158%, while Russian tourists reached over 265,000, a 100% increase.
According to local authorities, the sharp increase in the number of foreign arrivals to NhaTrang has facilitated the area’s socio-economic development and generated revenue for the budget. However, there remain limitations in controlling payments over networks to avoid tax losses.
Experts say payments via mobile apps are contrary to the law and shopping transactions in Vietnam’s territory only accept Vietnamese dong while many transaction activities are carried out in Chinese Renminbi.
Khanh Hoa province has requested relevant ministries and the State Bank of Vietnam to devise measures to control payments via POS, Alipay and WechatPay to promptly deal with violations and avoid losses of taxation for the state budget.
