Overseas Vietnamese welcome Lunar New Year

Together with their fellow countrymen, the overseas Vietnamese community worldwide is also celebrating the arrival of the Year of the Snake.

 In Indonesia, ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh joined a celebration at the Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta on February 2.

 The Vietnamese Embassy in Canada held a New Year get-together for overseas Vietnamese in Canada and Canadian families that have adopted Vietnamese children. 

 On the occasion, Ambassador Le Sy Vuong Ha informed the participants about the up-coming inauguration of the Vietnam Consulate General in Vancouver. The diplomat also expressed thanks to the Canadian families for their love and care for the adopted Vietnamese children.

 Addressing the event, Canadian Senator Pierre Huges Boivenue extended his best wishes to Vietnamese people and the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada.

He said Canada treasures its relations with Vietnam as both countries prepare for the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties this year.

 Also on February 2, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Korea (RoK) held a Tet celebration for Vietnamese living in the country.

 Honorary President of the RoK-Vietnam Friendship Association Lee Hee Yeon said that he will continue to work for the two countries’ friendly and cooperative ties.

 Earlier, on February 1, around 500 Vietnamese people gathered at a Tet celebration held at the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore .

Singaporean Deputy Foreign Minister Simon Wong and Lao Ambassador to Singapore Vengsavanh Sipaseuth attended the event.

There are around 12,000 Vietnamese people in Singapore. They include more than 8,000 students and over 1,000 business people.

 Vietnamese embassies in Laos, Italy and Belgium, and Vietnamese Consulate Generals in Sydney (Australia), Houston (the US), Hong Kong and Ma Cau (China), as well as the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations, also held get-togethers to welcome Tet.
