Province gains good results in socio-economic development in 8 months

Early September 4, provincial People’s Committee held a periodic session with focus on reviewing the local socio-economic development over the past eight months and defining major tasks for the remaining months of 2018 in order to fulfill the set target in 2018.Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee presided over the meeting.

Stable economic development

The province’s economy over the past eight months further reached stable growth. The province’s index of industrial production (IIP) surged 9.17% compared to the same period of last year. Of these, processing and manufacturing sector rose by 9.43%; production and distribution of electricity by 13.99%; water supply and waste treatment by 0.02%; mining by 7.44%. In August alone, the province’s IIP grew by 8.63% and 17.06% against the previous month and the corresponding period of last year.

The province’s total retail sales revenue of commodities and services was estimated at more than VND124.3trillion, up 17.4% against the same period of last year. The figure in August was more than VND16trillion, up 0.6% and 18.2% compared to the previous month and the same period of last year. Also over the past eight months, the province’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) surged 2.73% compared to the same period of last year. The value in August achieved the growth of 0.2% and 2.8% against the corresponding period of last year.

The province’s export value over the past eight months was more than US$15.33billion, up 15.7% compared to the same period of last year. The value in August was estimated at more than US$2.1billion, up 9.7% and 13.3% against the previous month and the corresponding period of last year.

In addition, the province absorbed VND33.3trillion in investment capital, a year-on-year increase of 10%. The province’s State budget spending was estimated at VND6.7trillion or 39.4% of estimates. Whilst, the province’s credit capital mobilized in August was estimated at VND175trillion, up 4.28% and 0.91% against early this year and the previous month, with total outstanding loans over the past eight months reaching VND176trillion, up 15.3% and 1.66% against early this year and the previous month, bad debt accounting for 0.63% of total outstanding loans.

Socio-economic situation with positive changes

Since early this year, the province has further implemented measures on supporting sustainable poverty reduction and paid attention to taking care of policies for policy beneficiary families on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27) and National Day (September 2). Accordingly, the whole province donated gifts, gratitude houses and saving books to 58,257 targeted people with a total cost of VND22.3billion…

Over the past eight months, the province also generated new jobs for 38,178 laborers or 83.9% of the year’s plan. The province organized a conference to review the local poverty reduction for the period of 2016-2018 and put forward solutions for the coming time. In terms of education-training, the province reviewed the local task on the organization of the 2018 national high-school graduation examination; actively prepared for the 2018-2018 new academic year…In the new academic year, the whole province has a total of 454,857 pupils at all levels, up 34,235 compared to the previous academic year.

For healthcare, the province took synchronous solutions in preventing diseases and strengthened inspection on food safety and hygiene. In August alone, there were 478 foot-and-mouth cases and 842 dengue fever ones reported in the province, down 37% and 28% compared to the same period of last year and no food poisoning case.

The province’s sector of culture, sports and tourism also organized many cultural-sports activities on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of August Revolution and National Day (September 2); made a program collecting objectives under the theme of “War objectives of Binh Duong’s army and people during the two struggles against French and American invaders”…

Speaking at the session, Mr.Liem stressed that the province needs to seriously implement tasks, solutions under the instruction of the Government, PM, provincial Party Committee and People’s Council for the rest of the year; make plans for socio-economic development, State budget estimates in 2019 and a three-year plan for State budget  from 2019 to 2021. The province also needs to urgently carry out the National Target Program on Poverty Reduction under the new poverty line; further recheck, prepare conditions for opening the 2018-2019 new academic year, ensuring people’s needs for learning, teaching…
