Grand ceremony celebrates 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory

Early May 7, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly (NA), the State President, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, and the northwestern province of Dien Bien held a grand ceremony on May 7 in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - 2024) in Dien Bien Phu city.

The event was attended by leaders and former leaders of the Party and State; leaders of ministries, central sectors and mass organizations and some provinces and cities under the central management; revolutionary veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor; generals, representatives of Dien Bien Phu soldiers, veterans, former people's police, ex-youth volunteers, frontline workers and forces participating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign; families of war invalids, martyrs and revolutionary contributors to the country in Dien Bien province. International guests included representatives from the following countries: Lao People's Democratic Republic; the Kingdom of Cambodia; China; the Republic of France...The celebration was honored to receive a congratulatory flower basket from General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.

The official rally began with 21 rounds of fireworks with the national anthem playing in the background. At the same time, the flag-raising ceremony took place, with a fleet of 9 helicopters carrying the Party flag and the National flag flying over the main stage.

In his speech, PM Chinh, on behalf of the Party and State, expressed endless gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap – the direct commander of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, predecessors, soldiers, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, the heroes of the people’s armed forces, pioneering youths, frontline workers, war invalids, martyrs’ families, along with the entire armed forces and people nationwide for their utmost dedications, bravery, and sacrifice to create the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory that “resounded across the five continents and shook the globe”; expressed his sincere gratefulness to the valuable assistance from international friends, progressive and peace-loving forces around the world...

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh pointed out that promoting the spirit of victory at Dien Bien Phu, our nation has won many great victories, continuing writing the epic of the Ho Chi Minh era. On behalf of leaders of the Party and State, the Prime Minister called on compatriots, comrades and soldiers across the country and our compatriots abroad to join forces; take advantage of all new opportunities; strive to overcome all difficulties and challenges; strive that by 2030, the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding, our country will become a developing country with modern industry and high average income; by 2045, the country will celebrate its 100th anniversary and become a developed, high-income country.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh awarded the First-Class Independence Medal to the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Dien Bien province for their outstanding achievements, contributing to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

After the rally, there was a military parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory with the participation of more than 12,000 people.
