Pu Bao Temple recognised as national historical relic

Update: 13-02-2014 | 00:00:00

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented a certificate to Tuyen Quang province on February 11 recognising Pu Bao Temple as a National Historical Relic.

The temple, located in Lang Can commune, Lam Binh district, was built in the 16th or 17th century as a place of worship for Duke Nguyen The Quan, who had made a significant contribution to quelling a rebel uprising in Tuyen Quang.

The construction of the temple was undertaken not only to pay tribute to Duke Nguyen The Quan, but also to serve the religious needs of local residents. The relic is indicative of Lam Binh’s long-standing historical and cultural traditions, wherein its people bravely battled foreign invaders to defend national sovereignty.

Pu Bao Temple has since become a regular destination for locals and visitors, opening up an ideal opportunity for Lam Binh and Lang Can to develop a spiritual tourism industry.

Already, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism had recognised the Tay ethnic minority’s Then singing and the Long Tong Festival in Tuyen Quang as instances of national intangible cultural heritage.
