The 2016 National Phu Dong Sports Festival - Region IV kicks off

 Evening Apr 17, at Binh Duong Stadium, the opening ceremony of the 9^th National Phu Dong Sports Festival 2016 - Region IV was held by the host Binh Duong province. Ms. Nguyen Thi Nghis, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Head of Steering Committee of the National Phu Dong Sports Festival 2016; Mr. Dang Minh Hung, Deputy Chairman of Binh Duong province People’s Committee, Head of Steering Committee of Region IV; and representatives from departments and agencies in the province attended the ceremony.

The 2016 National Phu Dong Sports Festival - Region IV brought together more than 2,500 athletes competing for 200 sets of medal in 12 sports (including 10 sports prescribed by the Charter and 2 other sports as regional characters comprising tug war and Judo). The host Binh Duong province participates in the festival with 366 athletes competing at 12 sports and aims to the runner-up of the general chart.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nghia, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Head of Steering Committee of the National Phu Dong Sports Festival 2016, stressed that the National Phu Dong Sports Festival was a sports day of high school students in order to achieve the objective of comprehensive education on ethics – intellectual – sports – arts, contributing to enriching the cultural and spiritual life of students, repelling evils in schools. Additionally, the National Phu Dong Sports Festival is an opportunity for students to show their sport talent. The festival is also a tool to evaluate physical education, sport movements in schools; discover, foster talents for localities, sectors, and the country.

Mr. Dang Minh Hung, Deputy Chairman of Binh Duong province People’s Committee, Head of Steering Committee of Region IV, said after the festival, gifted athletes would be further trained to prepare for the National Phu Dong Sports Festival 2016 that will take place at the end of 2016.

The 2016 National Phu Dong Sports Festival - Region IV will end on Apr 22.
