The Central province of Thua Thien Hue received nearly 2.8 million visitors, including 1.15 million foreigners during the first seven months of 2018, a year-on-year rise of 9.35% and 41.02% respectively.
The province’s tourism sector earned VND2,664 billion in the period, an increase of more than 32% over the same period last year.
According to the provincial Department of Tourism, a significant rise in tourist arrivals from the Republic of Korea (RoK) was a major contributor to the growth in the number of visitors to the province. The RoK continued to lead the countries with the highest number of tourists visiting Hue, accounting for one-third of the total number of foreign arrivals to the central city. There was also stable growth in the number of tourists arriving from other countries such as France, Germany and the UK.
Le Huu Minh, vice director of the provincial Department of Tourism, says 96,300 of the total 1.15 million foreigners traveled to Hue via Chan May port, mainly arriving from China, Spain, the UK, the US and Canada.
From the beginning of the year, Thua Thien-Hue has organized many events and culture, art and cuisine festivals, helping to lure more visitors to the locality. Luxury medical resorts such as the Onsen Spa Resort and Thanh Tan Hot Springs Resort and eco-tourism sites like Bach Ma National Park, Thanh Toan Bridge, Hue garden houses and Tam Giang Lagoon have become attractive destinations for both domestic and foreign tourists.
The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre has effectively organised a tour “Hue: one destination, Five World Heritages”, including the Hue ancient citadel relic complex, Nha Nhac (Hue royal court music), Nguyen Dynasty’s wood blocks, Nguyen Dynasty’s Chau ban (royal administrative documents), and literature on Hue royal architecture, which have been recognized as world heritages by UNESCO.
