Update: 23-07-2013 | 00:00:00

The draw for the World Badminton Championships 2013 has left the door wide open for Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh to progress to tough rounds.

Vietnamese badminton fans sighed with relief after the July 22 draw ceremony in China’s Guangzhou showed that Tien Minh, seeded 7, will play several underdogs in the first rounds and is likely to enter the quarter-finals.

In Round 1, Minh, who took the recent US Open trophy, will clash Joe Wu (New Zealand), and if he wins, he will meet the winner of the Dieter Domke (Germany) vs Jan Flohlich (Czech Republic) in round 2.

In Round 3, Minh is likely to take on 12th seeded Wong Wing Ki (Hong Kong) who was defeated by Minh at the recent US Open.

A victory will earn him a ticket to the quarter-finals of the most prestigious tournament of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

Competitions will take place at the Tianhe Indoor Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China, from August 5-11.
