To honor the reading culture

Update: 25-04-2018 | 20:58:48

The reading culture is dying. Less and less people read books, because modern people in a flat world are giving priority to touching and surfing more.

The book market is increasingly diverse and abundant for readers.

We are reading on the smartphone and forget that books play a very important role in our spiritual life. Boos is the key to unlocking the mind and soul of human. Book is also a transcendent teacher who illuminates the source of boundless knowledge in us, teaches us to live beautifully... It can be said that book is a spiritual friend, who shares every joy and deep sadness of every human being and reading books has long become a necessity of human society in the world.

Celebrating Vietnamese Book Day on April 21st, Book and Copyright Day on April 23rd this year, many activities were organized animatedly in the local. This year marks the 91st anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's book "Duong Kach menh", the first Vietnamese-language work published by Vietnamese printers. In addition, April also has World Book and Copyright Day (23 Apr). This is the date chosen by UNESCO as the "Book and Copyright Day" every year. These days are meant to celebrate the reading culture, encourage reading and respect the copyright of all people.

Talking about activities turning towards Vietnamese and World Book Days, Nguyen Van Hue, Director of Provincial Library, said: "The peak activities to celebrate this year's reading culture happen from 16 to 20 Apr. This year, besides the contest of The book I love held at all levels, there are many book exhibitions at Provincial Library, library system in districts, towns, city, and large bookstores. Thu Dau Mot University also collaborated with Provincial Library to organize book exhibitions and talks about Vietnam Book Day. "

According to Mr. Hue, a new activity of Provincial Library on occasion of Vietnam Book Day, World Book and Copyright Day was bringing books to Bo La and An Phuoc Prison under the theme “Books change my life”. This was a very meaningful activity for prisoners to write their feelings after reading. The first, second and third prizes will be praised on stage as a form of encouragement for prisoners to live better. Department of Information and Communication, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also coordinated with Provincial Library to organize many useful activities with the purpose of promoting cultural reading.

Going to Provincial Library we are able to discover a huge book source here. Reading books is still much more enjoyable than surfing webs! It is worth noting that Provincial Library always let library card services free of charge. This is also a practical way to encourage and celebrate reading culture.
